Overview:
To improve safety and energy efficiency, the ageing lighting system inside the 7.2 km Oslofjord Tunnel was replaced with a state-of-the-art LED lighting solution. The brief required minimising maintenance downtime while ensuring uniform illumination levels to aid driver visibility and reduce fatigue.

Our Approach:

• Designed a fully dimmable LED system that adapts to traffic flow and daylight at tunnel portals.

• Installed anti-corrosive luminaires capable of withstanding high humidity and exhaust pollutants.

• Integrated a centralised control system for real-time monitoring and fault detection.

• Coordinated installation in night-time phases to avoid major traffic disruption.

Outcome:
The new system reduced energy consumption by 55%, cut maintenance costs by half, and significantly enhanced driver comfort and tunnel safety. The project was delivered on schedule and fully compliant with European tunnel lighting standards.
